A brief update of Colorss in Pune city, presently the projects are being carried out at Pune city.

Currently we have three projects and one vocational training program:

1. Project Enhance: A one-of-a-kind project for disadvantaged children, with the goal to enhance their physical and mental health, as well as to reduce the negative social stigma and discrimination towards people with disabilities. The physical and mental benefits on these types of therapies have been well studied in developed countries, which include: improving physical strength, muscle control, coordination, discipline, self-esteem, self-confidence, and reducing stress and anxiety, and so on. The objective of Project Enhance is to empower children with disabilities and otherwise marginalized children by training participants in martial arts and encouraging them to express themselves through creative arts, while educating the general public about disabilities. Project Enhance uses karate and creative arts as tools to promote the physical and mental well-being of children with various types of disabilities, as well as to create a safe environment for disabled and non-disabled children to interact with each other.

Issues: Focus is on better mental health, physiological and psychological well-being, vocational training, inclusion, self-defense for girls and education.

Children in Projects: Currently there are 46 girls based in Pune city have recently been included in the project. We are going to train these girls studying in 5th, 6th and 7th grade in martial arts with a blend of creative arts.

2. Colors of Life: The Colors of Life project combines the use of technology and art to encourage children to stay in school while learning useful vocational skills and improving their communication and interpersonal skills through the creation of Colors of Life, the bimonthly e- magazine. A trained psychologist assesses each participant on his physical and mental abilities at the beginning of the program. Currently, the children take part in a one-hour session twice a week. At the beginning of the program, the teaching staff takes on a facilitating role to lead the children to write or draw based on a given topic. The topics are chosen by a psychologist on purpose to encourage the participants to open their mind by exploring their inner-self and to get them to be in a more relaxing and comfortable mode. Their artwork is featured in the Colors of Life E-zine, which is source of a motivation for the participants as well as give them a sense of pride and increase their self-confidence.

Issues: Focus is on reducing school dropouts, to motivate the child for further education, and on vocational training

Children in Projects: Currently there are 40 students in our projects. The first E-zine has been published and is downloadable from the website.

The second edition of Colors of Life will be published in the 2nd week of April 2011 during the time when the schools are about to go for its summer vacations.

3. Holistic Development: This project is carried out at a scholarship school of Pune Municipal Corporation for the students in the grade of 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th. We are working with this school and providing support at a holistic level. These students are extremely intelligent and come from slums. The socio-economic structure is very weak and their struggle for existence is way too high. We conduct workshops on English language, Brain-Gym exercises, Counseling, teaching different subjects, drawing and personality development and body language workshops.

Children in Projects: Currently we have more than 80 students in this project.

4. URJA- "igniting the power within": URJA is our new vocational training program. This program is started with an intention to make Colorss self-sustainable model and to raise the living standards of the family in training program. URJA has got couple of families and quite likely that more families would join us. These families are poor and have odd jobs to sustain their living. They are highly motivated and have the fire within. The women and children from the family are part of this project. URJA is intended to raise the living standards of the family by training and providing enough financial support for the children to make their future secure.

Issues: Uplift the living standards of family in training, educate the women and girl child in training program
