Connecting numbers and colors
India is all about numbers. It has more than 3
million km², a continental territory where more than 1,200 billion people live.
Its economy is one of the biggest in the world and it grows in such a speed
that in 2017 the country’s GDP will increase 7%.
India is all about people. Did you know that
one of every six people in the world lives in this Asian country? A sadder comparison claims that at least one
of every four poor people in the world lives in India.
Talking about poverty, it is a regular issue in
every developing country. However, of course that in a nation where everything
is huge, misery can take enormous proportions. According to the InternationalLabour Organization, more than 200 million children between 5 and 17 years old
around the globe are already working, instead of being at school or living what
childhood should be like. Indian NGOs calculate there are around 60 million of
young workers in the country – 30% of the world’s total.
Happily, numbers in India are not always scary:
several organizations are working in the present to fight the inequality and
other social problems in order to make India not only huge in statistics, but
also in opportunities and development. One of these hard-working organizations
is the owner of this blog, a determined foundation, composed by determined
people, who wants to change the reality of children and women living in
vulnerable conditions. Their numbers say they are succeeding.
Colorss
Anand Koti collects specializations. He is a
2nd Black belt in Karate and an expert in working for the social sector in
different areas, such as psychology, industrial relations, health management
and self-defense. One day, Anand decided to connect
all of his knowledge in something unique that could bring a change to his home.
Maybe at first sight it is difficult to understand how one can associate an oriental
combat to entrepreneurship and get social development from this unlikely sum,
but if we are talking about Anand’s idea you shall give a second look. Because
when the right people get together, with different backgrounds, but the same
will to make a good contribution to the world, everything can happen. That was
the role of Anand when creating the Colorss Foundation – to bring together
people wanting to see a change and willing to work for it.
The organization was established as an NGO in
2008 and, since its creation, Colorss is based on a very simple, yet effective
model. The foundation is a point of connection to volunteers and mentors of
different sectors that work together in projects that aim to facilitate the
development of children and women of Baroda, Gujarat state and Pune, Maharashtra
state. People of poor conditions can
participate in Colorss vocational workshops and trainings, as well as
self-defense and cultural classes. Sports, arts, technology and science are
some of the topics discussed by the six projects the organization is running
right now. The whole idea is to find people who want to discover ways to live a
better present and get ready for a better future.
If you want to discover more about Colorss and
its projects, stay tuned! The organization will be presenting its work over
here in the next few weeks. Prepare yourself for some fantastic numbers and
histories about this NGO and the people living its experiences.
