COLORSS PARTICIPATES IN OMPRAKASH CONFERENCE

From 4-6 December 2015, founder Anand Koti represented Colorss Foundation in the Omprakash Partner Conference in New Delhi, India. This was the Foundation’s first experience in attending a large international conference such as Omprakash. At the end of the conference, Anand left with fresh and useful knowledge on how to drive social change and with an expanded network of new friends who are also involved in social impact projects.

Ompraskash began as an idea first engineered by Willy Oppenheim who is an educator and educational researcher pursuing a doctoral degree with first-hand experience in social change. Willy is supported by Lacey Worel, who is experienced in specialised education and community organizing. Steve Sclar is also hosting the Omprakash Conference, and is a co-founder and Program Director of Omprakash EdGE.

The Ompraskash Partner Conference aims to build discussion between organizations that are committed to genuine social change. This year’s conference emphasised three broad themes, namely international volunteering, the role of grassroots social efforts, and research and advocacy methods. Meanwhile, workshops that focused on risk management, working with children and vulnerable populations, fundraising and social media management were also held. The conference was extremely informative and adopted a proactive approach in designing action plans to stimulate social change.

Colorss Foundation contributed to the conference as a co-facilitator of the Small Group Brainstorming session that explored how grassroots social impact efforts intersect with broader structural forces. Throughout the conference, Anand helped expand Colorss Foundation’s network by making new friends who are involved in social change projects that range from developing communities to elevating awareness of harmful diseases.

Anand truly enjoyed connecting with the hosts Willy, Lacey and Steve and learnt a lot from the experiences of the other attendees. The Colorss Foundation thanks Omprakash Conference for the wonderful opportunity to share ideas that drive holistic social change and looks forward to attending the next Conference!
