Give a Book, Help Children Read!

Do you have books that you don’t need anymore?
Do you want to help children read?
Join the Library Project!

Colorss Foundation is looking for any new or used books that can help 8 to 16 year old children read.

With your help, Colorss hopes to fill the shelves of the libraries in Mahadji Shinde High School and Dr. Ambedkar Memorial and Technical High School in Pune, Government School in Rajupura, Baroda with your donated books.

Although the books that Colorss has brought to these schools have added immense value to the students’ education, there is still a lack of necessary books. If these books are not provided soon, this can limit the students’ learning.

What do they need?
The students need books that can help them study their subjects in school. The books will need to cover topics related to Hindi, English, Maths, Science, Social Studies, History and Geography. Books written in the English Language will also be useful, as the students need to become fluent in speaking and reading English. We would encourage books that are in English to be simple, easy and descriptive for them. Additionally, dictionaries that can translate Marathi-English, English-Marathi, Gujarati-English and English-Gujarati are highly appreciated.

How can I help?
Drop us an email at emailcolorss@gmail.com or leave a post on our Facebook wall (https://www.facebook.com/colorssfoundation). Tell us that you would like to help or have some books to donate! We will excitedly get back to you and arrange the easiest way to deliver the books.

We would like to thank you for reaching out to us and to these students. Every single donated book counts as each book brings a child to a new world of imagination and knowledge!

Clothes-Drive for a cause – A Colorss Foundation – Ranbaxy Initiative

Clothes - Drive for a cause – A Colorss Foundation – Ranbaxy Initiative

Colorss Foundation in partnership with Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited carried out a cloth donation drive in the corporate campus of Ranbaxy Gurgaon in February-March 2013. The initiative attracted a huge response from the employees of Ranbaxy who donated their old/new clothes, gifts, reading materials etc for a good cause. Colorss’ handed these items to the needy daily-wage labourers and their family members working at the construction sites across Gurgaon.

The clothing drive lasted for a month starting 11th February 2013, witnessing thousands of clothing items
and toys being donated. The moral support and participation lent by the Ranbaxy employees towards the drive was exemplary.

Cloth donation drive was carried out to offer help to the homeless/poor people who are in great immediate need. It was run with an effort to provide warmth and protection to those in need. It has tried to reach out to all those people who will benefit with the donated clothes.

Today evening 4th April 2013; about 2700 clothes were distributed in 4 catchments of make-shift huts of daily wage workers who work at the construction site in Gurgaon. More than 500 families benefited through this distribution drive.

‘See Green’ - determined to be a fine integration of proposed solutions for some of the critical issues in the society! | Colorss Foundation

Every New Year brings in new opportunities for people, avenues to go by their resolutions and ways to achieve their dream. But, unfortunately some people get lost while looking around for such opportunities or probing for avenues and paths. Here, in Colorss we sincerely make an attempt to intertwine the right people with the right opportunity and further go on to create hope and strength in the people who will then pave way for a healthy society. Synonymous to this, starting this January, Colorss is coming up with a project – ‘See Green’ which is determined to be a fine integration of proposed solutions for some of the critical issues in the society. To give it a personal touch, we are creating an opportunity for each one of ‘you’ reading this to contribute in whatsoever manner possible to light hope and give strength to empower someone out there to stand up and live their life themselves. Read on to understand more about See Green.

The Objectives of the Project:

1.     Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: We are appealing to educational institutions, organizations and individuals to donate old clothes. Thus bringing in, the ideas of 3R’s – Reduce, Reuse & Recycle.
2.     Production of Hand Stitched Bags: The collected old clothes will be distributed among women in rural and underprivileged households of Vadodara, who will then produce hand stitched bags made of these old clothes.
3.     Empowering Women: These bags would later be sold for a nominal price to interested vendors in and around Vadodara. The income earned would be given to the women, thus empowering them and improving their financial stability.
4.     Plastic Free: By encouraging people to use cloth bags, we will be contributing our share to building an eco-friendly environment, free of plastic.

What can you do?

1.     If you are in Vadodara, then do take a casual drive to drop by your old clothes.
2.     For schools, we have a collection drive that has been planned and the respective schools are expected to intimate the same to the students.
3.     If you are not around but still would like to contribute, then do spread the word about this project on twitter @colorss or alternately on G+.
4.     You can go a step ahead to encourage volunteers and like-minded people in your neighborhood to come up with an initiative as this one.
5.     Choose to fund for this project by being a sponsor.

A little action can make wonders. It will lead to mutual satisfaction and happiness and will give a new social meaning to your life. As Stephen Covey rightly said, ‘Life is just not about accumulation, it is also about contribution’. Act now.

As an intern to Colorss, Mr. Aditya Gupta a Doon School Alumnus who had been working on his idea 'See Green' is now a reality.
